Mosss

I feel like my favortie rapper changes each time I listen to either Nas, Mos Def, or Jay Electronica. Depends on my mood, my mood now is Mos. So Enjoy.

The End of the Album

It's official, today is the death of the album. You can now find the Beatles on Itunes, and you can find all of their major studio albums and performance albums on there as well. Now you can go and buy Eleanor Rigby off Revolver, just because that is the only song you like off of that album. Or, you can buy Yellow Submarine, because you find it catchy and you don't want to buy the whole album. This is atrocious, and whoever sold out and gave Itunes The Beatles rights, I want to say this to you, I am ashamed. Today is the death of the album, the death of what use to be a piece of art. This is for Paul, John, George, and unfortunately Ringo.

Lets Start the Blogging

Sorry Dudes, I have been slacking a little. So lets get this semi-gorgeous day out with a little soul. What do you think? Now when I think Soul, I think Al Green, I think Marvin Gaye, I think of the hardest working man in show business, the late great, James Brown. But, what do you think of Soul in contemporary music? I think of The Roots, personally. Such a great band, lead by the incredibly talented lyricist Black Thoughts, and the incredible producer/percussionist ?uestlove, which by the way is the coolest name ever. Now I know they aren't exactly Soul, but I just get that same feeling when I listen to them. True artists with a message for the people, a real feeling of love coming out of the speakers. So lets start off the day with this Philly group, off of their newest album, which is amazing by the way, "How I Got Over."

So Ready

http://notquitemillionaires.com/2010/11/14/jay-electronica-the-announcement/

Fire.

Bed Time

Last post because the Pat's are about to win, and I need hit the hay. Who would have thought this guy is from East Bay, San Fran? There are a lot more MC's outside of NYC soundin' a lot like the original roots of NYC hip hop, or at least sounding raw and uncut like they came from Brooklyn or the Bronx or whatever. Jay Electronica is from New Orleans, and if you didn't know that your only idea of what a New Orleans rapper is was probably Lil Wayne. So this only goes to show that Hip Hop, as a whole has evolved from having signature styles of specific geographic areas, to becoming a diverse culmination of meshing styles across the entire country. There are now less stereotypes, you can find any type of MC from any city, or now with Drake being Jewish and Canadian, any country or religion as well. Things are looking good my friends. Goodnight and Good Luck.

Oh, and only listen to the first verse. Whoever rapped the second blows.

Instrumentals Rock!

Let me get this out there. I fucking love instrumentals. I write to them all the time, and use them for practice a lot. But,  for once I agree with the Polar Bear about something, sometimes music can be beautiful on its own, without any lyrics on top of it. Just found this instrumentalist artist named Onra, I am really digging his style from what I hear. It almost reminds me of RZA in a way and his producing style.  So I was inspired to make a little instrumentalist post. Also, I am going to add a couple other instrumentals I am in love with that I also use to practice freestyling.

Onra- I Wanna Go Back

This song makes me think of a rainy day, with a slight fog, and you want to go outside and see the world, but its like the world doesn't want you to come out and see it. Madlib is a genius.

I am completely serious when I say that Dilla's studio should be made some kind of religious site for all rappers/producers/hip-hop aficionados to visit before they die.

J Dilla- Dreamy

Favorite of those who hail from the E. This does have some vocals, but traditionally what I have heard from this artist has been mostly instrumentals.

Nujabes- Lady Brown (feat. Cise Starr)

P.S.- Erica I want some sick nasty artwork like in the Nujabes link above please. Thank you.

Hypnotism

For the first 1:30 of this song, there are no instruments being played, but the harmonies that this band sings make you not even realize it. I was introduced to Fleet Foxes by my friend Conner, who claims they sound exactly like their records in concert, which I reluctantly find hard to be true. Nonetheless, their records are amazing, and I am such a big fan of their self-titled album "Fleet Foxes", and their EP named "Sun Giant", which this song happens to be the opening track of that EP. It almost reminds me of medieval music in a way, with their simple harmonies and interesting fable like lyrics. This band is easily my favorite band to fall asleep too, especially after a long night conversing with Cruella. R.I.P.

Late Night Tunage

Got the headphones on, in a dimly lit room, watching the Patriots. Surfing the interweb for music, pretty much the best hobby ever. Loving the new Sufjan Stevens album, really really cool stuff. I am definitely liking the more volatile, electronic sound to it. Hate to use a word that I used in an earlier post, but it is very chaotic sounding, but it still culminates to create a very appropriate and cohesive overall sound. I rike this very much.

Nas is God

Best Lyricist of all time. He is truly a poet, the way he spits makes it sound effortless. Love the beat, Love the message of this song.

Whoops, I Lied

Beginning to lie to my small amount of followers is probably not the best strategy for upkeep of my blog. But, I truly couldn't resist posting this song. Diplo is an amazing producer, who does a lot of techno remixes, and actually some producing for M.I.A. I love to bump his shit on my speakers, all the way to 11. Figure I post a couple of his songs. He is on the new blackberry commercials if you don't know him.

One More

One more quick post before I go make some food. I love rock music, but I feel like the true testament of a real rock band is their live performances. There is nothing like seeing a group who sounds just like they do on the record, exceeding your expectations. I really hope I can see this band in concert once before I die.

Hipster Music

I know I shouldn't like this band, but I love them. Just recently bought this album for my sister for her birthday. No confirmation of her listening to it yet, or confirmation that she even likes it, but still. I love the chaotic noise it kind of has, and I love the lead singer and his glam rock style of singing and presentation. I love the flow of the whole album too, song after song, I want to listen to it more and more. Of Montreal really has something going on here. Side note: Love the artwork.

Mas Musica

First, pick four of the best rappers in the game, young and old. Second, take all star producer with experience working with several members of the rap team you have selected. Third, lets go straight lyricism, fuck the hook. All these factors create this song by the super tandem of Hi Tek and Talib's, Reflection Eternal feat. Jay Electronica, J. Cole, Mos Def.

Roc Nation new signee

Taking this to just point out, one of my favorite rappers, who I believe to be the best lyricist in The Game right now, Jay Electronica, just signed with Roc Nation. This only proving that Roc Nation knows real music and are masters of true talent evaluation when it comes to hip hop. Except for WIllow Smith of course...

Good Afternoon World

This post right here goes out to all the baby's momma's momma's. To me this song is a little culmination of hip hop perfection. Outkast is the perfect storm of two creative artists who 100% cohesively know what they want to accomplish. Not to mention Andre is straight fire. Also, Stankonia is easily on my top 10 favorite hip hop albums, maybe even my top 10 favorite albums of all time.

Yeezy is back

My doubts were prevalent. My expectations were high. My guard was up, and my critiscm was going to be harsh. But, unlike most musicians today, Kanye came up big to give me something I continually hoped for. Sure, Kanye West is a cocky, arrogant asshole, but isn't that what we want from possibly the best rapper out there? Who wants a rapper who is like, "Oh, I'm not the best, like I am pretty good, but this person and that person is better than me, I am not the best." Fuck 808's, Kanye has changed from his humble beginnings, but at least he's trying to find some inspiration from his early days. Collabo with none other than Talib (Pat Grim's favorite rapper if you didn't know), and a personal fav of mine, Consequence. Oh, and Q-Tip on the beat, what else can you ask for?

Possible "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" Review coming soon

New Find!

Searching reviews, and I found this band, Male Bonding. Nice and chill, just the way I like it. My resurgence of rock music coming up in my library is a direct influence of this post.

First Post

Lets start it off. The greatest thing Steve Jobbs ever did was add shuffle to the Ipod. I hate New York, but I love their music. I love the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, mainly for their ingenuity, their consistency of making good records, and they have a rocking female lead vocalist. Not to mention, they have a three member band, with no bassist, interesting...
